I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were good and believable and Moran seems to have a good grip on the actual historical events (as far as we now). However, she gave me no impression of the non-human surroundings. I would have enjoyed it much, much more if she had been able to paint the scenery and describe the architecture (other than building materials) better; if she had made me feel this was really set in ancient Egypt. There was a magnificent temple, cheap housing built from poor materials for the common people and people sometimes went by some kind of boat on a river from Thebes to Amarna. That's all I can remember being given to create my mental picture while reading. I'm giving her next book (The Heretic Queen) a try anyway as the story was good IMO. I'll just read up on the places in question beforehand and paint it myself :)
