I was surprised how much I enjoyed this story. I generally enjoy older writing styles - to this day one of my favourite reads is Mary Wollstonecraft's treatise on feminism - but my knowledge of the plot had seemed to indicate that the story would be mostly insubstantial. Instead, it was fairly riveting. I love the perspective of the author as nameless and relatively powerless. I very much enjoyed the epilogue - especially the way it left the future uncertain. Overall, really enjoyable, and it certainly gives me more context with which to enjoy Jeff Wayne's adaptation lol.
