As an authorized retelling of the X-Men story as a "for Dummies" book, this is a capable, quite thorough resource. It doesn't give much context for the stories or dive into their publishing history with anything more than a quick mention, but it's a good book for a reader looking for a concise way to catch up in the textual history of the X-Men. For readers wanting more, the gold standard for understanding, loving, and critiquing X-Men remains the Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men podcast.
