Dayton Ward wanted to write a Disco novel that was like a traditional stand alone Trek episode. And he absolutely did it. The story is filling in some gaps, not only between seasons 3 and 4, where it is set, but also from earlier. We meet familiar faces and new characters, each of them written very well and some of them I wished could make the jump from book to screen one day. The author as well as the narrator find each character's voice so that you can easily imagine the actors speaking. I find that to be especially true with Adira Tal and Jett Reno. January LaVoy, you are a gem! The story fits the show perfectly, but is also, as every good Trek story, very relevant to us readers and the world today. I hope there will be more Disco novels of this kind. Especially now that the show is coming to an end.
